What is self storage and how does it work?

Self storage is a service offering flexible, do-it-yourself storage for business and domestic customers. We provide clean, dry, individually alarmed storage units, access to which is available to our customers anytime during opening hours. Your storage unit in our premises is locked with your own lock ensuring that only you have access to your goods.

Is Self Storage a new Industry?
The Self Storage Industry started in the United States and Australia some 35 years ago. In the United States there are over 32,000 separate Self Storage facilities offering some 1.5 billion square feet of Self Storage space. The Industry has developed in Europe over the past 20 years where there are now more than 500 facilities. There are over 100 facilities in the Greater London Area alone. In Ireland, there are facilities in Dublin, Cork, Belfast, Limerick, Waterford and Letterkenny.

What does your facility consist of?
We are the first Self Storage facility in the Galway area. We have completely renovated and fitted out the 100,000 square feet former “Bulk Buy Club” building at Tuam Road, Galway. This building was constructed only 8 years ago and was specifically designed for storage. We have over 800 self storage units with over 30 different sizes on two floors to accommodate every need.

How do I get to you?
Barons Self Storage is located in Riverside Commercial Estate on the Tuam Road , Galway, just 1.5 miles from Eyre Square. Coming from the city centre, via Prospect Hill and Bohermore, go straight over Joyce Roundabout (Cemetery Cross), passing Liosbaun Industrial Estate and Ashbrook Housing Estate. Turn left at Suites Supreme and drive towards the rear of the estate, to the left of Production Equipment, through our gates and down the hill.

Coming into Galway from the Dublin (N6) road, at the Font Roundabout (Flemings Garage) take the City centre exit. Passing Super Valu /Centra / Musgraves and the Trappers Inn on the right turn right at Suites Supreme into Riverside Commercial Estate. drive towards the rear of the estate, to the left of Production Equipment, through our gates and down the hill.

Why do I need my own lock?
You need your own lock to ensure that you are the sole key holder for your unit. We sell several different styles of locks at our store facility at very reasonable prices, but you are welcome to use your own.

How much does it cost to store my things with you?
The cost of a storage unit depends upon the size required. We suggest that you check our Space Requirement Guide or speak to a member of our staff to determine the optimum storage for your requirements. A price can then be quoted on the correct size unit. Barons Self Storage has units ranging from 10 sq. ft. to 500 sq. ft. with prices starting from as little as €9.00 plus VAT per week.

What is included in the price- are there any hidden extras?
The price you are quoted by our staff includes your unit charge, rates, service charges,utility bills and maintenance costs. You must supply your own lock for your unit (available from our on-site shop),purchase contents insurance unless you are otherwise covered and we will ask you to bring in proof of cover when you move in.

How do I pay for my unit?
Customers must make their first payment by Credit /Debit card. Thereafter they must pay by Direct Debit. We will supply customers with the relevant Direct Debit form. Our licence fee is payable monthly in advance. We require a deposit equivalent to one months rent plus VAT. Provided all matters are in order at the end of the storage period, the full deposit will be returned to you.

Do I have to sign a lease?
No you don't. You sign a straightforward storage licence agreement prior to moving into your unit.

What do I need for identification?
You will need a picture ID (Driver’s license or passport) and a copy of your utility bill.

Do I have to book a unit?
No, you can fill in your storage agreement today and move in immediately. However, to be guaranteed a unit of a specific size on arrival it is advisable to book your unit in advance.

Can I move in today?
Yes, a member of our staff will fill in our storage agreement with you. Then you can move your goods in straight away.

What are your opening hours?
Our reception opening hours are:
Monday to Friday: 8am to 5pm
Saturday : 10am to 2pm
Sunday / Bank Holiday : Closed

How often can I have access to my goods and how much does it cost for access?
We offer our customers unlimited access to your goods during opening hours. Access is free of charge at Barons Self Storage and you are offered access seven days per week during our opening hours

How do I get my goods to you?
We offer a FREE MOVE IN service for customers in Galway City. Alternatively you can bring your goods in your own vehicle. We can also recommend local van hire or removal companies to help with your removal.

What are the unit sizes that you have available?
We have over 800 Units ranging in size from 10 sq. ft. to 500 sq. ft. Each of the units is approximately 9 ft. in height.

Can I transfer to another unit if I find I have too much or too little space?
You are welcome to move to another size unit at any time depending on your storage requirements and our unit availability.

What sort of security do you have?
Barons Self Storage has extensive security features including:

*24 hour Closed Circuit TV located both inside and outside the main building monitoring all entrances & exits

*A sophisticated twin alarm system, one for the building and one for each storage unit

*Coded electronic access to the building accessible only with your own personal code

*You are the only key holder, and only you or your designee has access to your unit

What is the minimum time I can store with you?
Our minimum storage period is 1 month.

Once I have a unit how long can I stay?
Subject to the minimum storage period of one month, you are welcome to stay for weeks, months, or years for as long as you require.

Do I have to give notice when I leave?
We require 7 days notice of your intention to vacate your unit. At this time a refund will be processed for any unused monies that you have paid. Notice can be given in person, in writing, by fax, phone or e-mail.

What can I store in your facility?

You can store almost anything in our units exceptions are:-

1. Food or perishable goods.

2. Birds, fish, animals or any other living creatures.

3. Combustible or flammable materials or liquids such as paint, petrol, oil or cleaning solvents, explosives, weapons or ammunition.

4. Chemical, radioactive material, biological agents.

5. Toxic waste, asbestos or other materials of a dangerous nature.

6. Any item which emits any fumes, smell or odour or compressed gasses..

7. Any illegal substances, illegal items or goods illegally obtained

Will you accept deliveries to my unit?
Yes, in special circumstances we will take temporary delivery of goods for you. We sign for the amount of packages received but not for the contents as this would necessitate us opening your packages. The delivery is placed in our “Holding Unit” at your risk and we would request you to come as soon as possible to transfer the items to your Unit. We will, however, charge by the day for goods left in the “Holding Unit” for more than 24 hours. The Charge will be twice the normal storage fees.

How do I get to my unit?

Ground floor
The ground floor is primarily dedicated to commercial customers, who need to access their goods regularly. These units are accessed via a DRIVE THROUGH the building. The customer may park near his unit within our building, load or unload, and drive back out the other end of the building. These units also are larger in size, which most commercial customers will need.

First Floor
The first floor is ideal for those commercial, document self storage or residential customers, who need less frequent access to their units. Please note that we have two large (50 person capacity) lifts to facilitate access to the first floor.

Do you have trolleys available?
There are a number of different size trolleys and pallet trucks available free of charge for customer use. We also have a forklift truck available for any heavier goods, which can be operated on your behalf by one of our trained staff at a reasonable charge.
